8U All Stars Win 50th Anniversary Town & Country State Title

AKRON — The Russiaville Youth Baseball League’s 8-and-under all-star team is the Town & County state champion.

Russiaville beat Northwestern 4-2 Monday night to take the title. Russiaville went undefeated in the eight-team, double-elimination tournament while Northwestern came out of the losers’ bracket.

Dayven Rody and Gavyn Hartzler had RBI singles in the bottom of the first inning to stake Russiaville to a 2-0 lead. Northwestern closed to within 2-1 in the second inning, but Russiaville kept the lead throughout. It went up 4-1 in the fourth when Rody had his second RBI single driving in Kaiden Worland and Blake Fogg had an RBI double driving in Gavyn Hartzler.

Earlier in the tournament, Russiaville beat Manchester 16-6 in the first round, beat Northwestern 9-6 in the second round and beat host Tippecanoe Valley 6-5 in the winners’ bracket final. Northwestern beat Tippecanoe Valley 5-1 in the losers’ bracket final.

Russiaville’s 8U all stars were Nathan Condo, Dallas Conn, Spencer Crow, Blake Fogg, Gavyn Hartzler, Kendall Krause, Nolan Miller, Kole Moore, Aiden Ring, Dayven Rody, Jaxon Sullivan, Kaiden Worland and Carter Young.  The boys were coached by manager Ross Sullivan and coaches Jake Young, Brent Crow, Bryan Miller, Matt Fogg, and Teddy Conn.

Throughout the tournament, these boys played with a lot of heart and determination.  They played excellent defense.  They came from behind in several games.  They pounded the baseball.  They were a joy to watch play.  They were a great TEAM.  Congratulations on a great season!!! 

Thank you to the parents for giving these kids an opportunity to play all stars and thank you to the coaches who have poured countless hours into shaping these boys into great baseball players and teammates!  Job well done!
